The Groovy Wizard Fuzz Driver is for all you wizards of guitar that have been searching for the most dynamic, touch-sensitive fuzz to drive your amp whether it is set clean or overdriven. Groovy Wizard’s open and transparent response lets the character of your guitar and amp shine through while accentuating every playing nuance. The wide ranging controls go from boost to amp-like touch sensitive overdrive all the way to raging fuzz! And it was specifically designed to extend the range of your guitar's volume control - from amazing cleans, to tight overdrive, all the way to raging fuzz - all by merely turning your guitar's volume control and varying your picking attack.
Adapted and extended from a classic ’60’s two-transistor console preamp circuit originally associated with Jimi Hendrix, the Groovy Wizard is not a mere clone, nor is it a fuzz face. The circuit was modified and voiced from the ground up to achieve the perfect sound + response. Utilizing a combination of a PNP germanium transistor coupled with an NPN silicon transistor running at up to 18 volts, the Groovy Wizard has a greatly increased range of gain from clean to fuzz, more tonal control, bigger soundstage and punch, and more transparency to create the perfect fuzz driver for any musical style or rig.
This is your always on dirt pedal!
Power Requirements
The Groovy Wizard is powered by either two 9-volt batteries or a standard DC power supply at 9-18 volts.
You can tune the response of your pedal by trying different voltage levels to the DC jack. 18-volts give you a loud punchy response. 9-volts will remind you of classic fuzz textures. Try running a voltage somewhere in-between, such as 12-volts, for a perfect balance of punch and saturation.
Grab those used 9-volt batteries that you have in the junk drawer that are drained down to 6 or 7 volts, and give them a new lease on life. Two batteries at 7-volts gives you 14-volts of warm tone with a satisfying pick attack. And the Groovy Wizard’s ultra-low current draw means you can keep running those used batteries for many many hours. There are also subtle differences between different types of 9-volt batteries: alkaline, carbon-zinc, or lithium-ion. Experiment with these to really fine tune the response of your Groovy Wizard.
Included with the Groovy Wizard are two custom kcFX Ultramega Super Heavy Duty batteries to get you going!
To change the batteries, simply unscrew the four rubber feet with your fingers to remove the bottom.
Unplug the your cable from the input jack when not playing to turn the battery off—or keep the DC jack plugged in and this will also turn the battery off.
